Eventide by Kent Haruf

This was just one of those books that you can sit back, enjoy and not have to figure out a thing. Just let the story happen. It is about good people in a Colorado town making their way in the world and helping others out. It is a story about a couple of old ranchers who never got married that take in a young woman and her baby. It is a story of a somewhat mentally deficient poor couple trying to raise and keep two children.  It is the story of a single social worker who goes beyond her duty to try to help those folks out. It is the story of a boy living with his ailing grandfather and his friendship with the neighbor girls. Somehow all these stories are linked and woven into an enjoyable easy to read book.

If you like this book you will also like Haruf's "Plainsong".
