All Things Cease to Appear by Elizabeth Brundage

A young couple moves from the city to just outside a small town in the country. The farmhouse they buy has an unhappy past and a spirit that has stayed perhaps to warn. The book opens with the man coming home from work to discover his wife murdered but his 3 year old daughter untouched. The book goes back in time to tell the story of the troubled boys who used to call the farm house home, the young wife who intuitively feels that something just isn't right but is powerless to change, and the true character of the husband revealed through the stories of his past. Very good.
