Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker

An excellent psychological thriller. Walker feeds you bits and pieces about the relationship between a narcissistic mother and her two daughters. The daughters disappear for three years after which one comes home. Told from the point of view of the one daughter who returned home and the detective who has been on the case since the disappearance and who had a similar mother herself.
