Evening Road by Laird Hunt

A great little novel about two women from very different backgrounds who, along a road, briefly encounter each other on a terrible day in American history when 3 people were lynched in a small town in Indiana.
I had never heard the terms for varying shades of skin tone that were used in this book. Cornsilk, cornflower, corntassle, and cornroot, very interesting.
